For over 20 years, I have collected memories of senior military officers and high-ranking civilian officials of South Vietnam.<\/span><\/p>\n

Preserving their stories so that the world knows their history is of the utmost importance to me. While for most Americans, the war has faded into the background, I do not want the voices of the South Vietnamese to disappear. Equally important is understanding how these senior leaders observed the events to gain insight into the significant occurrences. This is necessary because American historians often overlook the South Vietnamese in their books and articles.<\/span><\/p>\n

My two books, “Black April: The Fall of South Vietnam, 1973-1975,” and “Dreams Shattered Afar: The Broken Dreams of South Vietnam,” recount the struggle for independence and freedom of the South Vietnamese people.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Black April,” also published in Vietnamese by the Homeland Language Publisher, describes the courage and fighting ability of the South Vietnamese military to defend their country after the Paris Peace Accords.<\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span>\u00a0DRAWN SWORDS IN A DISTANT LAND: South Vietnam\u2019s Shattered<\/span>” outlines the ups and downs of South Vietnam, particularly President Nguyen Van Thieu’s role in nation-building.<\/span><\/p>\n

The government’s political, economic, social, and diplomatic efforts to establish a democratic system and develop the country during wartime are detailed. The book also outlines these efforts’ successes and major victories while acknowledging the difficulties and mistakes. However, at its core, “Dreams Shattered Afar” remains a grand narrative of a brave nation fighting to improve their lives.<\/span><\/p>\n
