\n<\/span>Max Hastings is a British journalist who participated in the Vietnam War from the very beginning. He was one of the journalists present at the White House press room to hear President Johnson talk with reporters and one of the last to leave Vietnam amidst the tense, horrifying atmosphere as people scrambled to find a way out.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Referring to the Vietnam War as the Great Tragedy, Max Hastings describes the early part of the war, which the French called the “Dirty War,” depicts \u0110i\u1ec7n Bi\u00ean Ph\u1ee7 as a “Phantom Citadel,” and describes the Geneva Accords as the cradle for the birth of two regimes in the North and South: Twin Dictatorships. However, Max Hastings uses these grand settings to reconstruct the individual tragedies that are rarely recorded.<\/span>

\n<\/span>Vietnam: An Epic Tragedy is not built on the idealistic stories of emerging heroes, nor on grand ideologies or theories that shift the world like those of strategic and tactical masters, but on the sweat and blood of young soldiers, the brutality of those stripped of instinct and conscience. It is a multi-act drama, starting with Russian soldiers, Chinese soldiers, Australian soldiers, Thai soldiers, Korean soldiers, and American soldiers.<\/span>
